If anyone can confirm this or let me know what parts from original mk3 02a setup can be used and what cant be used. This one should also have the 108mm flanges (non bolt type) for Vr6 I have read in other forums that the 02a starter motor wont fit & needs to be one from 02J and that the shift mechanism (in car) needs to be from mk4 too.

PS: before, spending a bunch of money on things I would go ahead and rebuild your whole shifter assembly with genuine VW and Diesel Geek parts! I did this recently and my shifting quality has improved immensely! At the 15-20 year mark and 100k pretty much ALL Mark IV VW's, have a totally worn out shifter assembly and bushings, which makes shifting a pain, definitely worth doing, before spending big bucks, on swaps or build ups.Cool so some more info the exact code I am looking at Having, had issues with my 02M (fork failure) going through that rebuild and LSD upgrade, I have come to the conclusion, that these transmissions, really are not designed to handle high horsepower and essentially, are made for a wide range of vehicles with different engines, some that weren't very powerful to being with and meeting the economically driven needs, of the basic VW Golf Mark IV platform.įor better durability and serious horsepower you might need to be looking to possible dogbox or heat treated gears, a true built up box or Motorsport/Autocross modified solution, that can handle the type of shifting you are doing and horsepower, you seem to want to have! Does this mean I need short or small gears or tall and long gears? Could you explain a little? How would you beef up and what gearing would you use in all the gears if you were gonna have a full gut car custom aluminum dash. I just feel like I could use more time in the gears taking full advantage of boost power band ect. 3rd has the most pull speed and length of all gears and the torque is awesome. 2nd pulls hard and spins the tires all the freaking time without trying and 3 is probably my favorite gear. I feel like 1st is only used for a hot sec and is worthless. I want my 1st and 2nd maybe 3rd with the GT28rs going on next month gears to last a little longer. So with my limited knowledge of gears and what not can someone clarify my thinking on it. But it drove for a month before I replaced the clutch. It looked like a freakin 8 puk disk lmao. What was being used was the steel frame that once held friction material. The stock clutch disk was used up passed the friction material and rivets. I replaced the clutch shifter assy and fluid change trying to fix it. Im thinking the grinding is a bad syncro. I know it has more in it because I can get 130mph in 4th easy on empty highway and through the canyon otw to work at midnight with no houses or cars for 20 + miles. Itll do 95 to 105 ish mph in 3rd on highway before snatch 4th. Just 2 step in 2nd at 4500 rpm so I get a clean 2 to 3 pull and snatch 4th at end just to cruz and drop rpms. So in a 1/4 race or just a light to light weekend warrior 1st to 2nd isnt worth it. Its kinda like only I can drive it right anyone else grinds. My problem is I have to let the 1st to 2nd shift rpms drop pretty low and OR at the same time shift to second slow pulling the shifter down to 2nd just right or I get a grind.

Also just got 4 new wheel Berings last week. All suspension and bushings are brand new. Also a 11 or 14lbs single mass aluminum flywheel. I have st3 350hp rated clutch disk st2 pressure plate. The car is very responsive and pulls hard on my dd trips.

I have a st 2 plus tune and on stock k03s it sits about 23 psi spikes 28. All emissions delete no cat no 2nd o2 sensor short ram air front mount ic yadda yadda. So I have 02 jetta wagon gutted 1.8t 02j 5 speed manual. My problem is transmissions and gear ratios. As far as hp, turbos, na motors and engine tunes and performance im pretty smart and do all of my own rebuilds and wrenching.
